MEET THE STAFF: Miriam Spelman, Marketing & Development Officer
Q1. How long have you been working with ANSAC?
Just over eight years. I didn’t know too much about the Defence Forces when I started but said I’d come in and give the job a go. Obviously, it’s gone well enough as I haven’t handed in my notice or been fired....yet!
Q2. If you’d explain your job to a ten-year-old what would you say?
Well, I have one of them at home and she has asked me this before and what I’ve told her is:
"I work in a pretty fun office, there’s a few messers in there (they know who they are!) but everyone works really hard. My job is all about letting our members know what we do in a fun and interesting way – videos, posters, banners, presentations, emails that sort of thing.”
Q3. Who do you work most closely in the Credit Union?
Well there’s only 14 staff members (we’re small but mighty) and I’m on a good few internal Committees...Membership, Credit, ESG and Complaints so I work with everyone in some capacity.
Then the Marketing Team is made up of myself and Ricky our Engagement Officer so there’s lots of really good collaboration there.
I also work closely with many of our volunteers, particularly The Strategic Committee as our Marketing activities feed into our Strategic Plan. Our Barrack Reps also know I’m only ever a phone call away and am always here to support them and our members.
Q4. Tea or coffee?
Both…I come from a long and distinguished line of teaholics…. I drink the stuff night noon and morning. I’ve also become a bit of a cappuccino fiend so safe to say I’m pretty caffeinated most days!
Q5. What song would be playing if you walked into the office like it was a film scene?
Hmmm...it’d have to be something that would make my colleagues laugh. How about The Real Slim Shady by Eminen? There’s an inside joke there but I’ll leave it at that. 😊
Q6. Have you watched any guilty pleasure TV lately?
I have indeed. I just finished watching season 2 of ‘At home with the Furys’ on Netflix. A lot of humour, heart and charm mixed in together. Reminds me of our ANSAC family...although our names are a lot more boring!
