ALERT: Fraudulent Messages Targeting CU Members
Here we share three specific examples of sophisticated SMS scams targeting Credit Union members that we ask you to read and be vigilant about:
#1 “MYCU-IRELAND.IM” SMS SCAM
• The message directs members to a fraudulent website presented as a secure https link.
• Traffic is routed through Cloudflare, creating a false impression of security and legitimacy.
• The site displays the Hands, Family and Globe logo and traditional credit union colours without authorisation.
• Regardless of navigation path, members are ultimately prompted to disclose their credit union and personal information.
• This is a highly sophisticated and convincing scam designed to target vulnerable individuals who may react quickly out of concern.
#2 "NEW PAYEE ADDED" :
Members are receiving fraudulent messages claiming that a new payee (e.g., “Jamie Smith”) has been added to their account and instructing them to call a number if this was not authorised.
These messages are fraudulent. Members should not call the number or share any personal information.
#3 "STANDING ORDER SET UP"
Several credit unions have reported members receiving messages such as:
“CREDIT UNION: Standing order of €4,850 to Shane Duffy set up successfully. Reply Y if you requested this, or N if not.”
These messages are also fraudulent, and replying poses a risk of personal data exposure.
If you're ever unsure of the legitimacy of a message, phone call or email you receive regarding your credit union account with us please do give us a call during office hours on 018554489.
Equally if you have any concerns regarding your ANSAC Current Account you can phone the number on the back of your debit card 24-7.
