Why we ask for Proof of ID and Proof of Address?
You may have noticed that from time to time we ask you to provide updated Proof of Identity (ID) and Proof of Address. While it can sometimes feel repetitive, there are important reasons why we do this, and they're all about protecting you, your accounts, and the Credit Union.
Why do we need this information?
As a regulated financial institution, Credit Unions are required by law to know who their members are and where they live. This process helps prevent fraud, identity theft, money laundering, and other financial crime.
Keeping member records up to date helps us:
- Protect your account from fraud and identity theft.
- Ensure we can contact you when necessary.
- Meet our legal and regulatory obligations.
- Provide you with the best possible service.
- Keep your membership records accurate.
How often will you be asked?
You won't necessarily be asked every year. However, we may request updated documents:
- When you first join the Credit Union.
- If your identification documents have expired.
- If you change your address or personal details.
- During periodic reviews of member accounts.
- If regulations require us to refresh information we hold on file.
What can you use as Proof of ID?
Examples of acceptable Proof of Identity include:
- Current passport
- Driving licence
- Defence Force I.D.
What can you use as Proof of Address?
Examples of acceptable Proof of Address include:
- Utility bill
- Bank statement
- Government correspondence
- Revenue document
In most cases, these documents must be recent, typically issued within the last six months.
What happens if I don't provide the documents?
If we are unable to obtain the required information after three attempts your account will be temporarily locked until we receive the required documents from you.
Our team will always work with you to make the process as simple and straightforward as possible.
